Answer To Use Of Force Scenario #1
There is nothing wrong with getting on the radio and calling for assistance. However, in this
scenario you should do more than that. Get out of your car and identify yourself as a police officer.
Order the man to let go of the woman. If the man does not stop attacking the woman, you are going to
have to physically stop him. You would then place him under arrest.
The panel may ask you if you would draw your weapon. In this type of situation, you probably
cannot shoot the attacker. If you see no weapons in his hands, then your gun will probably remain holstered.
You may not know what type of intermediate weapons this agency allows its officers to carry. However,
you can still suggest that you may use a baton or pepper spray on the subject if he refuses to stop the attack.
