To apply for a position, applicants must take and pass the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' written police examination. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Human Resources Division administers the Civil Service examination. The exam is given every two years. The date of the last exam was May 19, 2007. There is an examination fee of $50 - $125 which you may be able to get waived if you complete the appropriate waiver forms. The application and announcement notice for the exam can be usually be obtained at the police department's Human Resources or Personnel Office.
