Verbal Reasoning Questions
In this part of the test you will be given a paragraph that contains certain information.
After you read the paragraph, you will be asked a question concerning the information that was provided.
In answering the question, use only the information that was given to you. Do not base your answers on
any previous knowledge that you may have about the subject matter but consider only the information listed
in the paragraph. Some paragraphs will be written in such a way that they may appear to be repetitious and
somewhat confusing. Reread the paragraph several times if necessary and try to identify the important
aspects of the information. They are testing you to see if you understand what you have read. They are trying
to determine if you have the ability to discern the information and recognize a reasonable answer. Read the
paragraph carefully. The questions on the test will be much more difficult than the sample questions listed below.
Verbal Reasoning Sample Questions
1. A government vehicle is to be used for official business. The employee must be performing
his duties when driving the vehicle. The employee need not be on duty so long as the use
of the vehicle is for government business. An employee may use a government vehicle for
personal business if he is on duty and making a stop that is not out of his direction of
official travel.
Which of the following statements is best supported by this paragraph?
A. A government vehicle may be used for personal matters if the employee is not working and does
not deviate from his route of travel.
B. A government employee who is off duty may not drive a government vehicle for personal business
or official business.
C. Using a government vehicle for strictly personal matters is prohibited.
D. An on duty government employee may only use a government vehicle to perform his duties as a
government official.
E. When driving a government vehicle, an employee need not be on duty or performing any kind of
working assignment.

2. When conducting a fugitive investigation an investigator can use many different sources of
information. The more information that an investigator has the easier it will be to locate the
fugitive. Most of the information that an investigator needs may be obtained by interviewing the
fugitives associates. The information obtained from the fugitives friends and relatives may lead
to where he is hiding. Other sources of information such as a drivers license or social security
number may help an investigator to determine what alias the fugitive is using. The mail delivered by
the Postal Service and telephone records may disclose the fugitives location. Every source of
information that the investigator has access to should be obtained.
